I think they're just trying to put some historical credibility to the design; anything to influence a buyer's perception. I'm not sure comparing it to a Ty is the right choice though. After looking at the photos, it seems there would be many other designs out there to interpret (i.e. mangle). I think the boxy comment must be referring to the cabin.

Ease up guys. It's not a Typhoon. If one wanted a 19 foot, centerboard gaff rig sloop and didn't care how much it costs, this looks like a very nice sailboat. One wonders however about the performance. Does compass yachts have any comparative data between the "Hurricane" and the "Typhoon"? THAT would be interesting.

Be Very Encouraged! These folks have kept the basic boat alive. That's something I wished to do years ago, but my marketing research proved that it was not feasible or prudent. To purchase the molds and produce the historical version of the Ty was beyond what you, we, anybody was willing to pay for - today. The price point just could not support the boat's construction costs.
I am glad that the Hurricane is utilizing the molds (there quite beautiful). Maybe it will become a classic as well. I'm certain that in the future somebody will approach Compass to produce a Ty. The means will have been preserved.
