i see some lovely CDs with bulkhead stoves for boat heating. (we had a propane powered Dickinson stove on our last boat and quite frankly it was very expensive and temperamental. i won't do that again...) do any folks have recommendations for a charcoal or wood burning stove on the bulkhead of a 27? and how close to the mast can the charley noble through deck fitting be positioned?
thanks and fair winds.

Though I don't have a CD 27 I absolutely love the diesel/kero MK 66 Releks heater I installed in the Far Reach. Heats the entire boat especially if you add the Ecco fan. I have gone sailing with a low of 35 F and it was 70 F inside. It's also very economical and clean burning.

That's just beautiful, John.
Kaisardog - I also have a Refleks on my CD28.
Not having as much room as John, it's a little harder to fit in, but it works great.

Re: heating stove?
Just saw this post. If you don't need the fire to keep overnight, the Dickinson I installed in 2002 has done a fine job warming the cabin when the gales of November come really early. I've used wood, driftwood, charcoal and rolled paper logs in it. I prefer the chunks of red oak and silver maple branches I cut from around the house. Charcoal works fine but leaves a fair amount of soot on deck.

Here it is burning away on a pretty raw and windy October night when we were anchored in Presque Isle Bay. The little Hella fan under the side deck set on low really helps even out the heat.
