From Jim Ventrilio to any CD/boat owners in Maryland. I have my Typhoon "San Angelo" posted on the board for sale. I've got someone
from Maryland interested. He's never owned a boat before and it seems that Maryland wants to see something called a Certificate of Origin for a boat in order to register one. This boat is a 1979. I bought it from someone here in Connecticut in 2008. She bought if from the original owner who lived in South Carolina in the early or mid-1990s. I assume the boat and trailer were shipped up here by flatbed. Anyway, she simply wrote out a bill of sale for me which I took to Conn. DMV with her current registration paper to register the boat in my name. Conn. makes it pretty easy to register a boat; on the back of your registration form is a space to record a sale.
Obviously, used boats must get registered all the time, even in Maryland. Has anyone had any experience recently in getting static registering a boat without a Certificate of Origin?
Thanks,
Jim Ventrilio

Jim:
First, the disclaimer. I am NOT an attorney licensed in the State of Maryland. However, I did stay at a Holiday Inn in Fredericksburg, Maryland in 1994.
Check this website:

If you scroll down a little to "new vessel" you will see the requirement of a "Certificate of Origin" from the mfg. This is for new vessels. If you scroll down a little further you will see the section on "Used vessels currently titled in another state". I think this is the section that pertains to you and your prospective buyer.
There is no requirement for a Certificate of Origin because your vessel is used. The CO pertains to new vessels - I think. What is required for your sale are the original bill of sale, original certificate of title, release of liens if applicable, etc. and the Maryland vessel registration form (DNRB-240).
Again, I am NOT an attorney licensed in Maryland. I may very well be wrong about all of the above.
