Speaking of Cetol

It seems that quite a few of you (us) like Cetol. We finished the hand rails on "HUNKY DORY" with 3 coats of color and 4 coats of clear. This has held up for about 3 seasons, 2 in a shed and one in an open slip. Now comes the time to re-do/touch-up. Most of our areas still look good, so I will lightly sand and recoat with clear???? However, how do we do the areas that need more color but surrounding areas are quite OK? Can we lightly sand, apply color to some parts and then after the color is right apply the clear (gloss) to the whole area?
