swim ladder for cape dory typhoon

Post by 1sparefuse »

Hi. Anyone try swim ladders for typhoon weekenders? Mostly sailing alone and want to make sure I can get back in if I end up in the water. Have no stern rail or bow pulpit.
Thx

Search the site there have been a few discussions about it. I found a rope ladder hung midship worked the best. Tough to use but it worked. If you keep it coiled up on the back cockpit seat you can reach it from the water.

I use a Sea Step ladder on both my Typhoon Weekender and an old John Alden 21' Indian with a lapstrake dory-like hull. The one- two- and three-step climb-back-aboard systems are simple, easy to stow and launch and reasonably easy to use. I have the one-step units and have them only for MOB purposes, so they are not in regular use, but I have practiced using them to make sure they work on my boats. They are rather pricey, about $46 each, but I figure if I ever have to use one, it will be well worth the investment. They are made by a company called C Level, www.clevel.com.
