Whisker Pole Fittings
1984 Cape Dory 30 - I need to shorten my whisker pole by about 8" as one end was damaged by freezing water. I can't figure out how to remove the fitting at the end, though. There's no set screw and I can't figure out how it's attached - is it threaded or attached with an adhesive? Any ideas? Thanks
Re: Whisker Pole Fittings
I believe that the ends are press fit in. I would cut off the end that is damaged back to the undamaged area. Then you can cut the damaged tube away from the end fitting with a drummer tool or even a hacksaw possibly even pound it out since the inner end is now exposed. When you have the end free from the damaged section of tube clean it up and press it into the shortened undamaged end that you just cut off. that's my $0.02 worth. Good Luck
Re: Whisker Pole Fittings
Who is the maker? If it is Forespar they have a whole section on whisker poles and end fittings with details on installation and maintenance. Contact them for help or advice.Polly wrote:1984 Cape Dory 30 - I need to shorten my whisker pole by about 8" as one end was damaged by freezing water.
