Would a 2HP - 4 stroke be too small to move my boat? I sail on an inland lake and would like to reduce the weight and cost of a new motor. I use the motor to dock, and if the wind completely dies. The 10HP currently on the boat is far too much power for my needs. I'm thinking about either a 2hp or 5hp replacement. Any advise would be appreciated.

I recommend the 5HP. That's what I have on mine. It does well even with wind and current but I think that you'd be underpowered if encountering either of these elements with the 2HP.

I currenty have a six horsepower on my 77 CD25 and it seems to be of adequate size. I did limp home once with a 3hp(short shaft)and was surprised at how well it moved the boat.
There has been a lot of discussion on this topic in previous posts but in general I would want at least something in the 5hp range even in lake conditions.
Re: CD25 Outboard - 2 HP?
Any size motor will move the boat in a calm, and if there's any wind you can sail. I'm having a twelve foot oar built, and if it works out as well as I hope, I'm going to convert my engine compartment into a rope locker. I don't know how much current you have in your lake, but usually it is possible to predict when it will change direction, and just wait till it's fair. Chris.( CD25#4 )
