Replacing Shioft and throttle control cables

I am in the process of replacing the control cables in the Edson pedestal. When I removed the old cables the throttle cable was bent where it joined the clevis. I am concerned since the cable is fairly ridged from the attachment point in the front center of the pedestal to the end of the cable where it attaches to the throttle lever. What concerns me is the attachment is at the far right side of the pedestal. I assume this misalignment is the reason for the old cable having the bend. I do not see anyway to improve the situation and am concerned about installing the new cable. Has anyone else encountered this situation, it seems inherent in the construction of the pedestal?

John, I just replaced the cables on Christine C, with the Edson pedestal and cannot picture what is causing the problem. There is a cable clamp aft that screws to the pedestal. The cable sheath ends are clamped by that, the U toggles attach to the cable and the toggles attach to the levers via a clevis pin. Both cables make a gentle 15 degree bend to the lever ends. My binnacle is still apart; I can try to take a photo this weekend if it would help.

When I replaced the cable last year, it was jammed and bent like you mentioned. But with the new ones, so far so good.

Thanks for the input. When I looked at the old cable, I was convinced that the small amount of difference in alignment from the clamp to the arm where the clevis attached was an issue. I got the new cables followed the directions on the Edson site and everything worked. Just as a note to anyone doing this, the old clevis was only screwed on to the throttle cable approx. less than 1/4 inch. When I talked to Edson they indicated I should thread the clevis on most of the threads and make all adjustments at the engine end. This worked great. As usual my worrying about a project was worse than the project. Thanks for the input .

I dont mean to interrupt but I used the Teleflex Extreme cables and they are excellent.

I believe Teleflex are the standard replacement for our OEM Morse controls.

You want a good quality cable here because the routing through the pedestal is something you want to do rarely.
