Replacement Coaming?

Can anyone give me any tips on how to get a replacement coaming for the starboard cockpit on my 1984 CD 22D?

Or, can anyone in the Boston area refer me to a good source of teak? It looks like I need a piece 7/8" x 8" x 8'.

The orginal teak, ash supplier to Cape Dory was located in Bristol, R.I. They provide wood products both milled and unmilled. I only have an old address and number. I used them as a source for my interior teak and ash ceiling which are exactly what was sold to CD.

I will also give you possible last resort for a source. It is a local wood supplier which I now use here in Virginia. They ship UPS up to 70lbs per package and less than 108" long. They have quite a stock or can get it from teak, teak and holly sole plywood, ash, etc.

Try local woodworking supply stores listed in the phone book. I recently purchased two large planks of nice teak from the local woodworkers store. One was approx. 7ft. long x 1&3/4" tk. x 10" wide. It cost me $70. A somewhat smaller piece was $42. The store probably had 30 pieces of random sizes in stock. Using the methods described in the West Systems manual these two pieces have yielded all required for major repair/replacement of the wood on our boat with enough leftover for some upgrades.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I ended up talking to Thad Danielson of Redd's Pond Boatworks in Marblehead (he's also somewhere on the WWW).

It looks like fabricating it would be a bit above my skill level. Thad is a wooden boat maker (with some beautiful Norwegian dories in his shed). He pointed out features like the dowels running through the coaming at each end (presumably to stiffen the coaming) and gave me suggestions regarding installation.

I haven't picked up the new piece yet, but will let you folks know how it turned out.
