Recertify your propane cylinders

Post by Jim Walsh »

I have a Worthington aluminum propane cylinder which is mounted on a bracket attached to my stern rail. My cylinder met its 10 year maturity date which means it cannot be refilled. I looked into recertification but none of my propane suppliers were in the business. Selling new cylinders must be more lucrative. I called a fire safety equipment business and they will pressure test fire extinguishers and propane cylinders. I waited while my cylinder was tested and recertification took 5 minutes and cost 15 measly bucks! A brand new cylinder from Defenders would have set me back $206.99!
The moral of this story is consider recertification if you have an expensive aluminum propane cylinder.

*my cylinder was stamped and is good for another 5 years :D
