Spade anchor discount

I have a 25# CQR which I use as a lunch hook and my main anchor is a 33# Bruce. Both are originals, not copies. The Bruce has never failed to hold and has never failed to reset in a wind/tide shift. I know having 15 fathoms of 5/16 BBB chain and 27 fathoms of 5/8 nylon rode is a big part of my success with the Bruce. That being said, over the years I have read numerous articles and books where personal accounts and "tests" have consistently put the Spade anchor at or near the top of the pack. I have wanted to "modernize" my ground tackle for a few years, especially the CQR as I only consider it a lunch hook as it is prone to "plow" and must be set carefully. The new "roll bar" anchors are well regarded but the roll bar can be a kelp/weed catcher. The Spade has half its weight in the tip and has no roll bar so it sets readily, upright, and does not collect kelp/weeds.
I will relegate my trusted Bruce to lunch hook status and it will have the 20 feet of 5/16 BBB and 200 feet of 1/2 nylon rode previously used on the CQR. My new 33# Spade will have the chain and nylon rode previously used on the Bruce.
The Spade is a bit "pricey", but I'm worth it

We'll be curious to see how that Spade fits on the bow roller. Please let us know.

Like you, we have a 25# CQR for lighter duty, but we have 2 Fortresses for heavy weather and soft bottoms.

While we've had very good results with CQR, the new designs seem to perform better for the weight.

We're off to Nova Scotia in 4 weeks. Can hardly wait.

If considering a Spade I would strongly urge you to go with the galvanized steel version. The aluminum version has a tough time setting in hard substrates where the galvanized steel sets in an anchors length. I own both an aluminum and steel version so I'm not just stating this on hearsay but on actually using both........

I appreciate the heads-up. I did, in fact, order the galvanized steel version. It arrived this morning. I inspected it for any obvious flaws and assembled it. It's nice to have an endorsement from part of our extended online family who has put this anchor to practical use in our neck of the woods.
