Apparently not.
As many of you know, Jenn and I are planning a long cruise this summer from Nova Scotia, down to NYC then up to Lake Champlain
where we'll winter the boat before continuing up to the St. Lawrence then back out to Nova Scotia. This got us to wondering what anodes we should be using for the saline, brackish then fresh waters we'll be transiting.
A chat with boatzincs.com led us to order aluminum zincs, which should give us good coverage in all those waters. Yes, they would normally deteriorate more quickly in saline waters, but our mooring waters are brackish and we won't be in salt water for more than a month or so.
So aluminum it is. If you all could start hammering your old beer cans into cones and balls and send them to us, we'd appreciate it.
Please remember to empty the cans before you hammer them, a task I'll eagerly volunteer for.
Cheers! Hope to see a few of you at the Maine Boatbuilders Show in a few weeks.

I'm sure you know this but there are those who may need a reminder that only one type of anode should be used. Do not mix aluminum and zinc anodes, for instance. If you do only the least noble anode will be providing any protection.
If you use a shaft anode don't forget to paint a stripe on the anode where the screws are closest to the surface. It's a simple trick that really works.

Actually, I initially wasn't aware of the anode-mixing no-no, though I should have been. It's basic chemistry, which I worked with for 30 years. Duh!!!!
Thanks, and happy sailing in a few months.
