Bought a 76 CD 25 this past spring. Would like to replace the original gate valves with some real bronze seacocks. I think this might be a good idea. Any advise on the attachment to hull method and procedure etc. What material for a backing plate? Thanks.

I replaced the gate-valve/thru-hull fitting to my sink drain last winter. It's a pretty simple straight-forward project. One suggestion is to get a right-angle drill for drilling the three (per seacock) screw holes through the hull that secures the seacock in place. Space is tight in lockers and under sink. Check Don Casey's book, "This old Boat". It has good instructions and illustrations. I plan to replace the gate-valves to the cockpit drains when weather permits. My question- to those who have done this- is where can you get replacements hoses for the short 1 1/4" hose (looks like radiator hose)that goes between the gate-valve and the cockpit drain? Looks like a tight fit. Is it difficult getting the hoses on in the short/tight space?
