CD 30/36 owners: When did you last check your holding tank f

Post by Russell »

A lot of ten and fifteen year-old holding tanks are due for replacement. Glen, David, and I will be ordering new ones in the near future. The options increase if we can find two or three more interested parties. Before you say "no," I suggest unscrewing the top of your V-berth, and inspecting your existing tank for cracks. You may be surprised to find that the next big wave you take abeam will send sewage into your bilge.

CD 28 owners, too...

Post by Glen »

All 3 models (28,30,36) and the Intrepid 9M, 28 and 35 used the same odd shaped holding tank located in the bow under the v-berth. This tank fits the shape of the hull liner.

Prices for bulk orders are around $180-$200 (plus shipping). If you order only one tank it will cost about another $200 just to have the mold put online...nobody currently stocks this tank model.

Kracor was one of the original suppliers for these tanks and have stated that the life span is about 10-15 years. My tank had small cracks in the threads of the deck pumpout port and vent port...difficult to see (fortunately I had the tank out while replacing the hoses and noticed the leaks when I let the tank sit full of clorox/water)...they leaked just enough to cause odor which I had thought was due only to the aging hoses. It is near impossible to apply a permanent patch to these (polyethylene) tanks.

During a recent marine survey of a 1980 CD 33, we found a cracked water tank in the vee berth. We also found inoperative venting in other tanks.

I am interested

I am interested. Mine was replaced with a ~6 gallon tank that is sitting loose under the v-berth. What is the capacity of the original tank? Please let me know when you decide to order and or what I need to do to get one.

Thanks,

Rich s/v "Rambunctious" Intrepid 9M

Check the following Web page for tank dimensions and pictures of the hull liner under the v-berth on a 1983 CD30c.

I would be interested in buying a new tank. Please let me know what needs to be done.

We have a CD28 and may be interested as well. When are you planning on actually submitting the order?

Re: CD 30/36 : holding tank ??

Post by will parker »

I have a 30' Cape Dory cutter with the "B" layout, i.e. the head is in the forepeak, no "V" berth, and the holding tank is under the cabin sole in the bilge, back toward the engine. (There is a quarter berth) There is a small viewing port in the sole, but no way to remove the tank without at destruction of at least part of the sole (and rebuilding it). I don't believe I have any current leaks but I recognize the inevitible infirmities of age. The tank under the "V" in the other models is advertised as being 24 gallons. There is no information provided about the capacity of the holding tank in boats such as mine. Has anyone with the "B" layout had (or heard of) any experiences with this issue?
Thanks
