Sailing the Apostle Islands 2015

Post by Paul D. »

Finally did a test video editing project from this seasons' sailing adventures. A bunch of photos and some video from Lake Superior's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. I was lucky this season to have mostly family trips but there were a few solo and friends only trips too.

Greg and Jennifer, it's a really, really small grill and those were really big steaks from Costco! Got the grill BK (before kids).

I'm just jealous that I did not have a big boat when **my** kids where that age...

Those will be precious memories, and it looks like YouTube will be around long enough for them to easily look back on them!!

Is your sound-track music copy righted? I get notifications from YouTube about that, and then they add advertisements...

Paul,
I guess that is the 11' take apart dinghy that your brother made?
It is beautiful. It looks like it has a capable captain and crew too!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for sharing your summer adventures with all of us. Great family fun and memories to last a lifetime. Although my favorite part was the solo sailing in 30 its. It always puts a smile on my face when I'm in those glorious conditions where others are heading for the safety of the harbor and I'm heading toward Nantucket. Enjoy your winter and dream of spring and another memory filled summer.

Best Regards,

Keith

Keith,

Yeah that solo sail was a great capstone on the sailing season - which was a rather good one this year. It was really good to both feel totally confident about going out in those conditions - confidence in the boat and in myself - and to hear comments from other sailors in the marina about it being "Cape Dory weather".

Tim,

Yes that is the prototype John built and I used around Isle Royale that year. It's been a good dinghy and it rows well. He has really got that design and construction down so newer ones are much more durable/lovely than mine. I am actually thinking of a small motor for it for the boys to have. When I was a kid, my friend's dad had a boat and he would let us go feral with the dinghy. Not so great for the other marina folks, but it was one big adventure for us!

Yes the music in the video is copyrighted I am sure. I'm not selling the video nor advertising on it. I heard that lately, if/when You Tube finds copyrighted material on your posted videos, they then slap advertising on your channel for the copyright owner, in this case whoever owns Radiohead's catalog. Not sure how this works and I bet Radiohead could make Google take it down if they want. I just think they make great music and had to put it on there!

Here's to a good sailing season for all in 2016.
