Resistance is futile .... go for it and enjoy your new boat
Re: re: contemplated purchase cd26d
Sounds like an OK deal to me. Remember its a bit newish. If it has a diesel that's a point in its favor pricewise.
I've got a 25D, so our boats are cousins. I've gone to the boat shows, and I've yet to see a 25 footer that's as good a boat for the $$.
New cushions willl cost perhaps $500-1000.
Make sure you can afford the slip/registration/insurance/Winter Storage/new sails, etc.
Welcome to the club! (Maybe)

Hugh,You should have the vessel surveyed, whatever problems that are found at this time could be useful leverage in negociating the price.Boats are great fun but they cost $,so if you love her and can afford her go for it.Good luck.hugh kelly wrote: 1987 cd 26d,great condition, gel.sides perfect, deck not so good, high price, low 20,s.under 500 hrs eng. furler, cushions rough, int.wood perfect. What does "deck not so good" mean? This can be an expensive repair...other advice is good, get a survey and use it as a basis for negotiating the right price (check prices at BUCNET.com). This is a great boat, and if you're falling in love, you're already in trouble...welcome to our world.......hugh kelly wrote: 1987 cd 26d,great condition, gel.sides perfect, deck not so good, high price, low 20,s.under 500 hrs eng. furler, cushions rough, int.wood perfect. Re: re: contemplated purchase cd26d
You're falling in 'cause you lost your footing on that not-so-good deck while you were trying to reef at 25 knots and wrestling with that mast-mounted halyard winch, and as you fall you're wishing you had spent the $10,000 to re-mount the winches and lead all the lines to the cockpit but now it's TOO LATE...!!!
(I think I may have seen that same 26D last weekend, and I'm also very tempted. Just thought this might cool the competition a bit.)

Re: re: contemplated purchase cd26d
I ran the halyards and topping lift back to the cockpit of my CD26 for about $200 and maybe 4 hours labor

Re: re: contemplated purchase cd26d
we've just completed our 1st season with a CD26 outboard model. Hull #3. Your description of great gelcoat on the hull but not so good on the decks sounded very familiar. In seeing other CD 25 and 26's in the 80's vintage we know that we're not alone with deck issues. Our survey reported extensive gelcoat crazing on deck. Primarily on cockpit coamings and around the stern area but none the less pretty wide spread. We went ahead with the purchase since the surveyor said that there was no evidence of moisture in the underlying laminate. This determination was done via moisture meter and sounding the deck. Cosmetic at this point but we're now tasked with sealing this crazing up somehow to avoid getting water into the laminate down the road. As you'll see on this board, the cure for these deck issues can range from inexpensive self applied Cpt Tolly's creeping crack cure to very expensive professional quotes ranging from $6-9000.oo We love the boat and are happy with our decision to purchase but be sure to get an expert opinion on the deck situation to avoid any unpleasant surprises. OUr phone number is 207-829-2180, just outside of Portland, Me, if you want to discuss any questions about the boat over the phone. Ross & Sandra Williams
