We met Don, the owner of the CD-31 "Fair Winds" at Maryland Marina a couple of weeks ago and were complimenting him on his treatment of the rubrail, which had a rubber molding over it and stainless steel. Much more practical than the bare teak.

Don, we are hoping to get the name from you of the guy who did this for you so we can find out where he got the molding. We are hoping you see this post. Could you please contact us my PM, or post his contact information?

I would look at the Taco website. They are probably the largest producer of rubber rails and insets. After identifying what size and style you want, you could then order it from any of the their distributors. (I know that West Marine handles the Taco line.)

I have checked Taco's site, and several others as well but have seen nothing that even comes close to looking like the installation on Fair Winds. It's very practical and attractive. The white vinyl molding fits around the original teak rub rail like a glove and then he has a metal (not sure if stainless or aluminum) rub strake over that. It looks like it would actually perform the intended function instead of being something that you worry constantly about damaging if it touches something.
