New to Sailing

Post by sailon »

Good morning, I'm new to the sailing world and am interested in a 1978 CD 25 that is now moored in VA and will need to be trailered from VA area to central FL. Will I be able to step the mast down or will it need to be picked by a crane? Also any other tips for the trip would be appreciated. Also any recommendations on trailer float off locations or slip storage areas from the west side of Ocala FL area? Thanks for any tips.

Rick:

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your questions.

However, you will probably get more responses if you post you questions at CAPE DORY DISCUSSIONS - CAPE DORYS. This is the section at the very top of the "Cape Dory Discussions" page.

I transported a Cape Dory 25D (similar to a Cape Dory 25 but with a small diesel engine) from New Jersey to Miami several years ago. As I recall it, the mast was unstopped by several individuals and a small "crane" type vehicle. It was stepped the same way at a local Miami marina. I used a commercial vessel transporter for the trip from NJ to Miami as I have never trailered anything ever.

Good luck :!:

Thank you for reply and I will sear H that area now, there's so much good info but even looking at the manual it's not definitive from what I've seen so far so I figured I'd put it out there.
Thanks again.

What I was suggesting is that you repost your questions, etc. on the DISCUSSION - CAPE DORY section of this website. You will probably get more helpful responses to your questions about the mast unstepping, transport, trailers, etc.

You can certainly also research prior threads and posts to see if others have posted information that might be helpful to you.

I appreciate the recommendation and will do so but fortunately I've made contact since our last communication with a CD25 owner that lives within 30 miles from me that has recently gone through everything I intend to soon.
Thanks again,
Rick
