Recently purchased CD22. Original ice chest that sits under companionway stairs in front of batteries is missing. Are these available anywhere? What are they made of, teak? Can they be made? Would like information, photos, and/or measurements to construct. I'd like to make one if they are no longer available or at least copy the box and drop a regular cooler inside. Appreciate any replys.

Re: Ice Chest for CD22
Steve,I have seen ice chests fabricated out of fiberglass, plywood and gelcoat with foam insulation that were superior to original equipment.I think Casey's book is one resource to look at.It is just a well insulated box that has a drain to the bilge. You may be able to modify a stock cooler to fit your needs.I know the one in our CD25 was pretty good,a block of ice would last 2-3 days in warm summer weather.Steve wrote: Recently purchased CD22. Steve:
On the 22 we owned the original equipment ice chest was a Coleman. It was a 48 qt., I think and made of steel, therefore it rusted. I replaced it with a similar unit and had the same problem, so perhaps fabricating one would help.
My suggestion, however, would be to use an Igloo or Gott cooler that would fill the space.
