Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

Tabbed bulkhead

Post by Jim Walsh »

While I was busy with a water tank vent fitting repair I noticed a construction detail which is a clear indication of a well constructed boat. The photo's are of a tabbed bulkhead. The teak veneer on the bulkhead was removed and the bulkhead was tabbed to the hull with several layers of fiberglass. It extends 4" onto the bulkhead and a bit more onto the hull. They did an excellent job as I never heard one noise coming from a bulkhead. One fellow I talked to in Bermuda claimed that his bulkheads all squeaked and his crew were quite apprehensive for the first few days of the trip because they could see the bulkheads moving. These are the construction details which really count offshore.
