We will be experiencing some unseasonable weather as well in South Florida. :(

Tomorrow, Sunday, we will be fortunate to reach 70 degrees in some areas :!:

Winds are also projected to be way above (way, way above) my skill level. :( :(

The surveyor came on Monday. No big surprises except that he looked at the pennants and said they did not chafe, they got cut, probably by an adrift boat coming through the mooring field. That was a relief to me that I hadn't done anything to cause the problem. Here's a couple photos of damage to the port side toe/rub rails, keel, the bow pulpit, lifelines and bobstay:

I also talked to the salvage guy and he said this boat acted as a fender to keep Christine C off the wall. All the boats against the wall suffered serious damage to their hull/deck joints. Note that the hull of this ~30foot cabin cruiser is about 5 feet to the left of the deck that you see floating there. All the debris on shore is the contents of her galley and main salon:

Thanks for all the kind words!

Hi Jeff,

Those pictures are tough to look at. Good luck getting the boat fixed. I have very little experience with Hawthorne Cove but I like Noah the yard manager a lot so I suspect you will get good service from them.

During the storm, I had seen the powerboat you pictured on the webcam a few times but I hadn't realized that there was another boat against it. I actually think that when I was looking, your boat was still on the mooring as there is a CD30 with the same paint colors that is usually easy to see on the webcam and I watched it for a little while. I just looked at the webcam and things don't look too bad out there now but boats are starting to bounce around. There are at least 2 shredded jibs and 1 shredded roller furling main that I can spot, probably all from the last round.

I feel bad continually discussing mooring pendants in this thread with the damage that your boat got but I did have one more thought. I have noticed that almost no one in Salem makes an effort to keep the pendants from wrapping under the ball and around the chain. Apparently Hawthorne Cove and Salem Water Taxi both untangle the pendants once a week but almost every time I am out there, I see lots of fouled pendants. I have always lashed the two pendants together and used floats just as Maine Sail's tutorial shows and never once had wrapping issues. If the pendants wrap around the chain, it can quickly cut through them.

Sorry about the damage to your boat. Must be tough to deal with. Everything is fixable but you'll need an individual or yard who employ honest craftsmen to effect proper repairs. Done properly it should be as good or better than new when completed. Surprised to see a port side boarding gate. Most only have one on the starboard side. Good luck.

Lise & Ted,

thanks! It was great to get out yesterday only motoring since I still need to reinstall the port side genoa track. A lot of work to get to this point this year. Hawthorne Cove Marina did the rub/toe rail, all new lifelines, most new stanchions, a new bow pulpit, all standing rigging, soda blasting, bottom fiberglass repairs, new Dynaplate, topside gelcoat repairs. She was in the shed there from about Thanksgiving past the last snowstorm. With Steve Laume's advice (thanks!) I replaced the fuel tank with all its hoses and changed to a better primary fuel filter with a sight bowl and drain. Oh, and I stripped and re-varnished all the teak except the cockpit coamings since the new wood was not varnished.

Then, once launched I quickly came back out to replace the galley seacock; the backing plate had failed. She had a small diesel leak last year and I think the diesel pooled between the backing plate and the engine pan. Most of the backing plate was solidly attached to the hull but about one eighth in that region appeared to have adhesive failure. Oh, and the sink's tail stock was broken apart so I need to fix that later also. Launch 2 was successful but I had a starter problem which turned out to the the solenoid wire on the wrong terminal and then needed to reattach the forestay because the roller furler was backwards. It has been a busy few weeks.

I still have to finish the varnish on the mooring. The first of the post-level coats blushed so needs to be sanded down. Then all the construction at the neighboring power plant was getting lots of dust airborne which made sandpaper of the varnish. And I also found Saturday that the anchor shaft bracket is bent (it got knocked off in the accident) so I need to order another one.

Jeff,
Ouch, sounds like so much work. I hope you are beyond the worst of it.
