Spreader Boots

Post by barfwinkle »

Good Morning/afternoon

Quick question abt spreader boots. in the past I have used spreader boots from Taylor Made (I think) and they fit nicely once installed. I have not been able to find any Taylor Made boots that fit this time. After visiting the their website I see that none of their boots fit as well as the ones I've used in the past. I even looked at the ones from Whitecap and they don't appear to fit either.

What do other smaller CD owners use.

Hi Bill,
I recently replaced my spreader boots. I think I ordered them from Defender, but I'm not entirely sure. They fit nicely. I don't think they were from Taylor Made.

I used to use the Taylor Spreader Boots, but I thought the latest thinking was that the boots do more harm than good. :?: :?:
I have switched to using the Harken Spreader wheels. They do help with keeping the genoa from having up on the spreaders in light airs.

I stopped using spreader boots years ago. My spreader tips are nicely rounded so there's nothing to catch or snag. It's quicker to rig, easier to inspect and I think it looks better.

Just my two cents,

I'm pretty sure this is the right one from Defender. There are three sizes.
Seems to me I lashed the two sides together at the cuffs. Held up well.

Thanks for the replies

Emil those are the ones I have & they are too small. I had this issue at the last haul out but dont remember where I got the ones that fit or who made them. Hopefully it in the log book on the boat.

The ends of the spreaders onboard Rhapsody are forked with whipping wire wrapped around the shrouds. A ripped sail just waiting to happen.

Fair Winds and Tnx for the replies.

Bill,
Spreader boots, if you want them, can be made out of leather or canvass.
SailRate even sells leather onesHere is a link:

West Marine. Imagine. Kind of dorky white things but have worked so far.
