Want help with some of the work?

Post by Interested in CD's »

I'm a relatively new sailor (6 years) who would like to learn more about certain Cape Dorys with an eye toward cruising most of the time within the next two years. I , however, have never been around Cape Dorys. I'm especially interested in Cape Dory 33 sloop, Cape Dory 30C or Cape Dory 30K.

I'm interested in learning about whatever needs work on the CD and am willing to help under the captain's direction. I could be available on mutually agreeable Wednesdays to work on or, later in the season, help crew the boat if someone is willing to take on a new hand/crew member. I live on the North Shore of Boston so I'm hoping someone in this area would be interested.

I've been racing on a J130 for the past five years which means my commitment to that boat is every Thurs and often at least one if not two days on the weekends during the season.

Thank you for considering my offer. l look forward to hearing from you.

What a great offer. My boat is pretty far from where you are but I would gladly take you out and show her off to you. I am surprised every CD owner in your area hasn't contacted you for help or just offered a ride, Steve.

Hi,
We have a 30C. It is currently on the hard in NH, but will be sailed out of Salem, MA in May. Bottom paint and polishing starts next week.
cheers,

Hi Ted,

Unfortunately my car had to stay with the repair shop and won't be released until this Wed.
I hope you got my message from yesterday but if not: Where in NH are you? If I can get the car out early this Wed I'm hoping you're not too far North. If not is the 29th also good for you?

To bad you are not in Oriental, NC. I am just refinishing my teak! New canvas will be done in two weeks (dodger, bimini, and wheel cover). I am also hoping to get my new UK sails (main, 90% jib, 135 genny, and cruising spinnaker. I have already installed a new beta marine 16 hp, head, plumbing, all new avionics, modernized the deck gear, and new interior canvas. Also, installing a new A/C panel and wiring, plus air conditioning. Plan to cruise north all summer starting June 9 through August 15. Good luck with your quest!

Lovely boat and pretty crew! Last November, I cruised with Edana Long who runs the Sunshine Sailing School. She has Cour Volant and is out of Oriental NC. We overnighted from Ft. Lauderdale to the Abacos and were on board for a week. Fun! She has a Sun Odyssey 40.
I bet it's a great trip with the CD that you have! Enjoy and thanks for sharing your work and the photos.
