Take look at my new Builders Plate!

Re: Take look at my new Builders Plate!
Chris,
I also got my Cd30 plate a week or so ago. I also noticed that yours has the two buff marks on the face same as mine, and I was wondering why they allowed that out without rebuffing it? They are very visible in reflected sunlight, which makes it more apparent than the lettering at a distance. Other than that, it is a nice placque, and I am glad I got one. I will however, get this plate rebuffed to remove the dulled areas (three of them on my plate). Roger..any comments?
Cheers!

So that's what that is!
Larry,
Although I am pleased generally with it, I must assume it is difficult to make a mold such as was needed for this product. The original, I am sure, is more fine, sharp etc. -----some of this seems to be lost.
****Now in case the fine folks at Bristol Bronze read this --"I LOVE IT" I am just making observations.

Orig. plates were burnished, not bright.....
.....if the plate on my '84 is anything to go by. You can also see a burnished plate on another 31' ( I believe ) on page 66 of the current issue of Lat's & Att's. The foto is of Heidi Bruce, sailing on Lake Champlain. The contrast between the dark and bright makes the features stand out. If that effect suits your tastes, it might be worth doing....IMHO......
Larry/Chris, did Bristol Bronze stamp you own hull numbers on the new plate for you???
Congrats on the plates guys,

This reminds me.....
That---at one time, and I don't know if it is still true----that Mckibben Charters (on Lake Champlain) had a Cape Dory or two in their charter fleet. Maybe the one pictured in that Latts and Atts photo is one of them.

Yes they did ours nicely. Roger went out and bought a larger set of number stamps, and they approximate the size of the plastic Hull Plate that we have (I gold leafed it last winter, in a fit of boredom and boatsickness, leaving the black background as is. Turned out nice enough to plan to bring it home for a wall placque or something.
I'll look up that photo in Latts & Atts..tonight. Cool magazine..gotta take your hat off to Bob Bitchin. He found a pretty good way to sail and make money at the same time.
Cheers~!

Chris,
Nice picture! You have the same abrasion marks on either side of the number, as mine has. Otherwise, it's a great placque. Especially since this is a reproduction taken from a reproduction (kinda like copying VHS tapes..the high frequencies in the audio and video are lost..in this case the finest detail is muted a bit).
Question: Was this taken with a digital camera? Which one if so.
Nice shot and gackground.
Cheers!

photography secrets exposed
The camera is a Mavica digital camera -- 31/2 inch floppy
The background (okay start laughing) is the backside of my computer mousepad.
Happy Holidays

Re: photography secrets exposed
Hi Chris,
The Mavica is quite sharp! Hey, no problem with the background..very effective! It's the texture that intriqued me. I used to be involved with 35mmm a bit, and miss still photography as an art form.
Happy Holidays Chris and all you Cape Dory family members!
Cheers!
