My friend has a 28 ft CD powerboat with a single engine. He wants to know if anyone has had any luck changing the prop to get more speed.

Re: 28 ft CD powerboat
Unless someone has put on a non-standard prop you will make no speed improvement by changing the prop. If the boat has the 200hp Volvo, has a clean prop and clean bottom, it should turn approximately 3900 rpm wide open underway. If this is not the case, have a mechanic check the engine and also check that it has the prop recommended by CD.Louis Ferunden wrote: My friend has a 28 ft CD powerboat with a single engine. Does anyone know what prop the boat would have with the 165 VOLVO and what the WOT RPM is?Jack wrote:Unless someone has put on a non-standard prop you will make no speed improvement by changing the prop. My Cape Dory 28 gas came with a 18/18 pitch prop. It wowld not reach full r.p.m's, I changed the pitch to 18/17, that worked. I Changed the motor this year it has 325 hp. the only change to the 18/17 prop was to cup it. The boat cruises at 16 m.p.h and tops out at 23. Ron
