Very Arrogant Attitude from Spartan Marine

Post by Larry Austin »

I need to replace the screws (West Marine said that they look like silicone bronze, and that I should call the manufacture to be sure, as you dont want to mix metals) that go thru the Dyna Plate and hold it to the hull. I just got off the phone with Spartan. Don't ever make the mistake and say that you are looking info on you're Cape Dory...you will be told right off that CD is no longer in business and that we don't make parts for CD...we make parts for Robinhood. After saying "well, whatever ,i'm just looking for 2 new screws to hold on my dyna plate, can you help me?" we do not sell screws, can't help you. Asked to speak to someone else..Larry got on the phone...same thing...asked when "Robinhood" builds a new boat and puts on a new dyna plate...where do they get the screws? Can't help you...we do not sell screws...said all right , I'll post a message on the CD web site asking where I might get replacement screws that you can't help me out...The response was very fast from Larry..."Well, wait a minute
I can sell you the entire Dyna Plate kit which has new screws"

I'm still looking for the parts as my wife and I are working to get the boat ready to sell once we find a late model CD36.

Anyone know where I can get replacement screws?

Thanks in advance

PS. anyone know of a late (86 or later) CD36 for sale?

Check Yachtworld.com. They have listed about 4-6 CD 36's. Do advanced search and type in cape dory.

Larry,

Go to a good marine hardware store, here in Noank, CT that would be Wilcox Marine in Mystic. A Dynaplate is simply sintered bronze, bronze bolts of the proper size and length will be just fine.

You're selling a Cape Dory 30??? Does Her Majesty the Queen know of this? I believe if you read the Articles of War, you will see that this is a court marshall offense under Article 21, and you may "suffer death" if found quilty! Of course there is the mitigating circumstance that you are buying a BIGGER Cape Dory, so maybe the Admiral and Senior officers at your court marshall will find in your favor. Just bustin' ya, hope you are lucky in finding the 36, I wouldn't worry about the bronze bolts, just do it!

I know!! I Know!! I hear ya!!,(believe me, I love this boat and would go anywhere in her) but Her Majestry the Queen will not leave the Sound (Long Island) in search of those little "umbrella" drinks somewhere down south in a 30 footer. So, if I don't get a bigger boat it will just be me , the cat, and a "ship" full of can foods....hmmm...

PS. Thanks all for you're responses confirming that the bolts are indeed bronze. just got off the phone and 2 new bolts are on there way.

That's strange about Spartan. I have had several dealings with them and they have been more than helpful and didn't care to sell me anything or not. Must have been a PMS (post maritime season) day for them.
