Is there a way to cross reference the number on the builder's plaque, to determine the year that the boat was built? This boat is number 1204.
Thank you.

Jack, sleuth around on the site a bit and discover many answers the first of which is to head to the Typhoon page:

http://www.capedory.org/specs/typhoon.htm

Then you can check the Identification number and find the year. However, you'll have to get that from the owner.

I would not concern myself so much with the date of build, as they were all built within a 20 year period or so, but would be more concerned with the condition of the vessel; i.e. hull condition, broken items of teak, cracks and/or water inside the sandwich of the top of the vessel, and other little nuisances.

Others will weigh in with even more interesting advice I'm sure. Get down there and walk the vessel. It may not be there long!

No. She belongs to a friend of mine. As I have recently sold my CD 14, I am very tempted to buy this one. If I can find a trailer, I just might pull the trigger.

My weekender is hull #1130 and she was built in 1976. This was the heyday for weekender construction so I suspect that the hull number 1204 was built in either 1976 or 1977. Somewhere I have a graph that I made of the production rates of the Typhoon #/year and these were made at the peak of production. Just look at the condition - rudder, chain plates and look for any wet decks around hardware.

There has been a lot of interest. So far the detractors are that she has a soft area on deck, forward of the cabin. Also, she has a dirty bottom, and no trailer. Logistics of getting her from Norfolk to another port have stumped a few prospective buyers.

I am on the hunt for a trailer. If/when I find one, I will probably buy her, take her home, fix the deck, buff the hull, clean the teak, and get ready for summer!

How is the wood on thr Ty? Pics may show a problem, not sure. Are blisters apparent on bottom or can the bottom not be seen? Is ther a travel lift nearby to fully inspect the boat. Thanks
