Does anyone have a solution for replacing the upper (aluminum) jaw for Lewmar ST40 OE 1983 (bronze drum)?

Or http://www.pyacht.com/lewmar-winch-schematics.htm ?
This site has photo's and schematics to assist in establishing precisely what part number you seek.

Re: Lewmar ST40 parts
I wonder if you can fabricate something that can work in a pinch? Assuming you still have the lower jaw, I have some ideas that might work in the short term, stop by tomorrow and lets brain storm. Something as simple as plywood painted with some nonskid (really short term), or even aluminium or bronze (Jeff has a nice stock of metal and basic fabrication ability, and there is a metal fabricator in town named Kiwi Dave who could make something permanent).

Re: Lewmar ST40 parts
Wondering how you guys made out?
This has reminded me that I should buy some critical spares for my Ocean Series self tailers. I don't want to be in the same fix at some point in the future. Seems the winch manufacturers have a habit of obsolescing designs.

Re: Lewmar ST40 parts
Thanks for the helpful replies.
The pyacht schematics and winchspares.com are great resources. However took some time to figure out that there are different configurations to the Lewmar Wavegrip winches.
The OE ones on my 1983 CD33 are bronze with no separate bottom crown and aluminum top crown. winchspares.com can fabricate the top crown in "black composite upper crown from Uv stable black material".
88.4 Pounds Sterling each.
