1975, 25' restoration, windows needed
I am in the middle of a full restoration of this 25. I stripped every piece of anything off her. Painted inside and out and now I'm looking for the small silver alum. framed port holes in the forward cabin. Question is ? Any idea who made them way back when or who might make some replacements today?
Thanks for yur help

Re: 1975, 25' restoration, windows needed
Sorry I don't know the source of these windows, but just today I started to remove the windows in the main cabin of my Cape Dory 25 (hull number 59) to rebed them because of leaks. I hope you can give me some insights as to how they're installed. I've removed the inside trim, but the frame remaining in the cabin side won't budge in any way and I don't want to apply any more force to loosen things-up without having a better idea of what I'm doing. I do see silicone sealer/adhesive had been used when installing (or reinstalling) the pieces that remain in the cabin side. Any insights about removing the windows without breaking them? Thanks, John

Are your ports of the plastic variety or bronze?

The vintage '75 aluminum are held in by caulking on the outside and the trim clamp on the inside. They can be removed after taking the trim from the inside and applying slow, steady pressure from the inside to push them out. Once removed you can take them to a glass shop to have new glass installed if you wish. The large ones are easier to remove and re-glaze. The small ones are a bit trickier to re-glaze since they are in two pieces and there are small link plated to hold the halves together.

I should hav added
For this process I used a car jack and a 2x4 to apply the pressure. Start on one end and tighten slowly, it will ease out. The trick is slow steady pressure.

Hello, I too am just starting a major refit for the 1975 CD25 I bought 4 weeks ago, and I will be having the same problems you are. We drove up to Connecticut, looked at it on its trailer, with a 9.9 Yamaha, bought it and brought it back home to Crystal River FL that (extended) weekend. I knew the hull and trailer was ok, but most everything else needs work before it goes back in the water.
I look forward to any info you are willing to share, and I will be posting questions for my project here with our new "Moon Shine". I have had a few sailboats, but this my first CD--finally.

You guys should take a look at Stan's extensive re-building, along with photos of his CD25 on his website. Many great ideas for your own project can be found there.

Indeed, I have had conversations and emails with Stan who has been very helpful. His CD 25 is much later and has the much better bronze portlights. Lucky man, and he has a great result. However, there are no modern metal portlights which are appropriate to fit the 1975 CD25, as the current cutouts are too long and/or are spaced too closely to replace with anything I have found on the market. That includes the bronze we all wish we had.
If any of you find something I did not, I would like to hear about it.
