Shaft zinc installation tip
Premature shaft zinc loss can be prevented with a dab of nail polish. Shaft zinc's come in two halves and are bolted together. Normally the zinc wears away exposing the fastenings and the shaft zinc is lost. A stripe of nail polish (or any paint which will adhere) over the fastenings will resist erosion and dramatically increase your zinc's chances of survival. The attached photos show the effectiveness of this little trick.

Great tip, Jim.
Particularly since we threw our shaft-end zinc sometime late summer. So I think I'll use some Locktite and nail polish and see how things go this year (along with installing two zincs.
