I am interested in purchasing a Cape Dory and would like to hear from anyone who has one or is familiar with them. I would like to learn as much as I can about them before I take the plunge. I have been sailing for about three years and am looking for an easy one to handle (one person), which is sea worthy. Pros and cons about their durability and sea worthiness in bad weather, etc. is very important to my decision. So please folks, share your info and experiences with me. Thanks.

Albert,
May I suggest you spend some time reading the posts on this board? You will find that we all are quite fond of Cape Dory, believe them to be among the best built, most seaworthy and visually appealing. I believe you would have a hard time matching the value of a CD in todays market place; that's probably why CD's are hard to find....owners have a tendancy to hang onto them. It's hard to imagine that you could go wrong with a CD that had been maintained properly!

Al:
The club jib feature of the CD28 makes it an ideal candidate for singlehanding, because you have no sheets to worry about when coming about. The full keel, bridgedeck and general ruggedness of the Cape dory make it very seaworthy. Things like external halyards, simple robust stays add to the seaworthiness, ease of maintenance and ease of handling.
On the negative side, CD's in general back up poorly, and are slow in light air.
You'll get more compliments owning a CD!
Good Luck,
