Builder's Plates - samples? photos? art work?

Post by Ken Coit »

Roger Winiarski of Bristol Bronze has contacted me via email regarding his need for bronze builder's plates or art work for the remaining models. He has the CD-32 and the CD-14 Handy Cat plates. He needs all the others. If someone is willing to loan a plate to Bristol Bronze, please let us know via this board so we can minimize the chaos. The other alternative is to provide art work. I guess this could be derived from either a bronze or plastic plate; we could also use a photo. Any graphic artists out there? If so, could you use the photo from Catherine's CD to create art work for all the models?

Please reply to this message if you can loan a plate or take a photo. Please reply to the "market estimate" messages if you want a plate.

Ken,

I also talked with Roger at Bristol..and he suggested that we consider using his web site to enter the individual orders and provide credit card information. I thought this might save someone a lot of work.

He also mentioned that he had a CD30 plaque in the mail to him, so would be able to take orders for that model as well as the 32 and 14 Handy Cat.

Roger also mentioned that he was willing to consider making the various metal parts that Spartan decides not to make anymore, such as stanchions, stanchion bases and stanchion braces. He would make them stronger, from his own proprietary alloy of brass and ?? which he says is stronger than S.S. by 100%. They can be chrome plated to match the remaining S.S. stanchions (somewhat).

He is certainly an enthusiastic and interesting person.

Cheers!

Larry,

Thanks for the info. I am trying to work up some art work to see how that process might improve the plate. It looks like the font for the "Cape Dory xx" part is Garamond Bold, but I am not convinced. I haven't sleuthed the "EAST TAUNTON, MASS." yet, but it isn't the same. And the "Cape Dory Yachts" bit is italicized and all upper case, but in two sizes!

Does anyone know what the hull shape is from? It may not be hard to copy it from Catherine's photos or the logo found in the manuals.

Anybody else getting bounces when you e-mail them? My messages aren't getting through their firewall. I've tried from their website (sales@bristolbronze.com), and directly to Roger (roger@bristolbronze.com).

Re: Builder's Plates - 330 and 33 in the mail to Roger

Post by Chris Reinke CD330 »

Ken - I have mailed my CD330 plate to Roger at Bristol Bronze. It appears that the 330 was run from the same plate as the 33. The lettering is slightly off center by the last "0" character on the 330. Roger has the final word, but the 330 plate should be easily modified for use on a 33.
