SOLD: 1976 CD 25 For Sale $3500 (Lake Ontario)

Post by Jamie McCulloch »

Hull No. 245. $3,500. Bottom painted last summer (boat only in water 4 weeks), hull waxed, located at Chaumont Yacht Club in Chaumont, NY (Lake Ontario, Thousand Islands area).
Many improvements:
--New main (Moorhouse Sails, 2009) paid $975
--2006 Nissan 6 hp 4-stroke (used only 30 hours, paid $1200).
--New interior cabin cushions (2010, paid $1000).
--2002 CDI roller-furler (paid $1000). 150 and 130 Genoas from previous owner still in good condition, added Sunbrella suncover to 150 for roller-furler in 2003.
---storm sail
--spinnaker
--2 whisker poles
--Edson wheel w/Ritchie compass (may have been a factory option)
--shore power added 2007
--inverter
--battery

No blistering on hull, paint job is a little tired and pitted in places, deck is firm, wood all in good condition. Bought boat on Cape Cod in 2001 (originally named Liberty, never renamed it but wet-sanded off the faded name), had it moved to Lake Ontario in 2004. Great boat, looking to downsize to a Typhoon (will trade) so that I can dock in shallower water in my brother-in-law's cove.

Yikes
Wheel steering on a 25!
Never seen one. Wonder if it was offered @ build
Love to take it for a sail to see the difference

The wheel is nice, I have to say--no knee-knocking when coming about--and having the compass on the helm column rather than on the cabin makes navigation easier. I've never seen a wheel on a CD25 either. The original owner must have added it at some point.

When I was searching for a Cape Dory 25D I looked at many (many :!: ) CD 25Ds and did a lot of research on what was original and what was "after market" addition. All of the CD 25Ds had (have) tiller steering except one. From the research I did it seems that a wheel pedestal steering was offered as an "upgrade" to a tiller. I did not physically inspect this "wheeled" CD 25D but I would think access to the below deck steering mechanism would be "challenging" at best.

It is possible the original owner of S/V Inverness asked Cape Dory Yachts to install the wheel instead of a tiller.

Hi Roberto,
I "bumped" my post after updating the info in it since it was last posted six months ago, and it appears that whatever replies also get re-posted. Sorry, I didn't know that would happen.

Jamie:

It's not anything you did. Members "bump" their posts all the time. For some reason the date of posting my July/Aug 2014 was changed by the computer gremlins to 18 February 2015 but the date of the other earlier posts from other contributors was not changed. Very strange. I have every confidence that Cathy will resolve it.
