I had a GoPro camera mounted to the stern rail with a True Horizon mount. The mount has a weighted pendulum that keeps the camera level despite the heel of the boat. The GoPro cameras have a very wide angle lens, are completely waterproof, can take video or stills, and can be operated remotely. There is no end to the ideas that people can dream up on how to use one of these.

Yes, that's the mount. It is expensive but well designed and well constructed. Manufactured by an individual entrepreneur in this country. I am happy with it. You deal directly with the company owner - he is a sailor and stands behind the product. If you buy accessories, he will bundle them with a deep discount. I have not seen anything similar on the market. And, since two of my favorite activities are sailing and taking photos, I felt like I had to have it.

Disclaimer: I have no connection to GoPro and have never owned a GoPro product. Unfortunately for me they came along after my underwater video "career" came slowly to an end. The equipment I worked with was much larger, bulky, finicky, and generally unwieldy. I have seen u/w video shot with GoPro camcorders. Excellent quality in a very compact unit; just look at the awesome photo Gary shot "hands free".

Originally designed to take surfing selfies, the GoPro camera has turned into a tool for all types of creative photography. Now here is the best part - I received mine as a surprise gift for my 65th birthday ----- from my 90 year old mother! How cool is that? Unfortunately, her vision is not good enough to see any of the photos or videos I have taken with it.

Just saw the photo, nice! Now did you edit a bit of film from that session that you can post?

I'm sticking to static connectors with much less quality than your mount system. Great to get the view however! I usually risk my Nikon D3100 for those. One of these days I'm going to drop it in the lake, I just know it. It'll be a sad day for me!
