What supports the pullout double bunk?

I am the new owner of a CD30 cutter. Getting ready for the sailing season has proven to be largely an exercise of figuring out what parts are missing or broken, and tracking them down. We have a pull out double bunk where there is a plywood sheet that is pulled out 18 inches or so. There is no obvious way to support this. I am sure I could figure out something, but I would like to understand how it originally was supported. Your thoughts?

You should two little "divits" on the cabin sole. Two little wooden dowels fit into the under side of the berth and into the sole. If they are missing you can make them pretty easy.

Thanks! I think I see what is going on here. I don't have anything I would call "little" divots, but the holes in the sole for the table legs are lined up well for this purpose. I can see wear marks on the underside of the plywood just above these holes, so it looks like a couple of round-ish sticks would do the trick.

My '77 CD30 has two short metal posts that fit into the cabin sole for that purpose. There is a storage area for them in the locker next to the head. Hope that helps.

My boat came with two dowels. At each end they were reduced in diameter to fit into the sole as well as the bunk. Your dowel lengths may be slightly different from one another. Mine are. In a perfect world, you would establish the overall length, and turn each of the fours end down on a lathe or even a drill press.

If you want to keep the job simple then get a piece of dowel or even some square stock. Cut it to the correct length to support the shelf. Drill pilot holes in both ends and insert a round head wood screw. Do not run the screw all the way in so the head can fully engage to holes in you cabin sole and the bottom of the bunk.

This will be much easier than turning the ends down, Steve.

I did a similar thing to what Steve mentioned but drilled the ends and inserted 2 smaller dowels of the correct diameter to fit the holes in the bottom of the bunk and sole. If I remember right, I epoxied them in there.
