I just inherited a CD 14 and it needs a moderate amount of restoration. Can anyone steer me to a worthy resource to begin learning? Thanks.

What's A good book/resource for restoring a boat?

"Fiberglass Boat Repair & Maintenance" by the Gougeon Brothers; self published. $3 at any West Marine store.
"Upgrading The Crusing Sailboat" by Dan Spurr. $24.95, International Marine, 1993
Both are better then any Casey book, IMHO. Spurr is editor of Practical Sailor, and the Gougeon Brothers are boatbuilders who developed the WEST System for epoxy and fiberglass.
If you are thinking paint, go directly to the manufacturers, i.e., US Paint or Petit. The US Paint information is excellent, even if you don't use their paint.
Have fun.

Re: What's A good book/resource for restoring a boat?
I use as my Bible the book by Ferenc Mate titled ‘Ship Shape’ distributed by W. W. Norton 500 Fifth Avenue, New York available in most Barnes & Noble bookstores. The book is subtitled “The Art Of Sailboat Maintenance” but most of the work needed to restore ‘Osprey’ my 72 typhoon was covered. He is very practical author and I think he also did one on restoring sailboats.
Good Luck!

David- I think the books these other gentlemen have mentioned are excellent sources. I would add "This Old Boat" to the list. I'm sure you don't want to spend a fortune on books but trutfully I have found every book to have its own strong & weak points at the many junctures of boat restoration. The books will pay forthemselves though via time/effort saved or through the intense satisfaction of a job well done. Moreover, many of the "tricks" and technques reviewed in these books have application outside the boating world.David Higle wrote: I just inherited a CD 14 and it needs a moderate amount of restoration.
