Tiller Clutch

Post by Gary H »

I am thinking of upgrading from the bungee cord when single handling. Has anyone used the Tiller Clutch? Of the products available, it appears to be the most durable, easiest to use, and least obtrusive.

And the fellow in the video seems to be enjoying a beer while tacking single handedly.

Other suggestions are welcome.

I have one on our Ty. I think it works really well. Easy to use and it is low profile which I also like. Got my at Defender. Might be a better price.

WE use the tillerlock on our 27 and it works well. I like look of the brass and stainless too.

Gary,

I use a Tiller Clutch on my 28 when I don't feel like hooking up the tiller pilot. It's easy to install and generally keeps the boat on course, but I've found in anything but the lightest air, it will take a few mintues of tinkering and moving the tiller one way or another to find the best position. It's also a quick, and temporary way to hold the tiller still in a slip, if you don't want to tie a clove hitch every time. I wouldn't trust the clutch in a big wind, however.
