Hi owners,
Does anyone know the color code for the gel coat on a CD 31?
We want to repair some deck crazing/cracks. We found a vendor who can match the old gel coat, but they need the color code.
Not sure why they need the code, for the gel coat surely must have faded over the last 30 years, but hey do.
Thanks

Re: Gel coat color code
I had very good luck by purchasing a quart of Gel-Coat Products "standard" CD color mix for my era boat. I suspect it was created from reading someone else's sample.
If you cut a 1" plug from the deck or back edge of the cockpit, they can custom match to it.

Very similar to fiberglass to work with, and I've plugged up dozens of little holes all over the boat. A little wet sanding to 1000 and it blends right in. Quote from my boatyard was over a thousand for all of the work.
Three or four drops of MEK per teaspoon is about perfect.
Order it waxed, and it cures well at 65 - 75. Any warmer, and it sets up really quickly. The wax can be washed off with a scotchbrite pad, and then scuff sanded and recoated if needed. A quart goes a long, long ways.

Thanks so much!
We'll email the company today. Coincidentally, the PO gave us two deck plugs he saved from another project.
And where is your boat? We'll be sailing Downeast in June - Portsmouth, NH over to Nova Scotia.
Cheers!

Re: Gel coat color code
I'm in Portland, one of three CD 30s at Southport Marina.
The day after the Beach to Beacon 10k (Aug 3), we will be headed to Penobscot and MDI for three weeks.
Hoping to drop into The Woodenboat School for their 40th anniversary party on the 16th. I'll hang some pallets over the rubrail to hide the plastic...
