Re: Internet access when cruising
Yup, it's a typical Saturday. The CD forum is swamped with posts today. Thanks, Mitchell.
I realize that many of us are frustrated because we can't varnish the brightwork today. Anyhoo, here's something to help pass time away.
A man and his wife, on vacation on an isle in the tropics, spent most of their time relaxing on a sandy beach. Every day they noticed a certain woman walking back and forth along the waterline. People would walk over to her and give her money. In turn, she would reach into a bag she carried and hand a small package to these people.
The wife's curiosity knew no bounds. She simply had to know what the beach
walker had in her bag, what she was selling to others. She asked her husband to walk down where the beach walker was and find out exactly what was going on. He agreed and strolled across the beach to where the bag lady was. A short time later the husband returned and his wife asked him what the lady was selling. He replied:
"She sells C cells by the sea shore. And the C cells she sells by the sea shore are C cells I'm sure.

Okay, now that you are patting yourselves on the back for your linguistic excellence, here's another one to chew on. It's easy. There are only three words involved that you already know how to say. Anyone can say this easily, even young children. Surely, you shouldn't have any problem with this. I might add that you should say these words rapidly and say them three times. I repeat, say them as rapidly as you can.
Word #1 is "black"
Word #2 is "bugs"
Word #3 is blood"
Okay, say these words three times and say them fast.
Rotsa ruck,
O J

Close. Most of us are frustrated because we'd rather be on the boat not varnishing brightwork, rather than being stuck at home not doing it.Oswego John wrote:I realize that many of us are frustrated because we can't varnish the brightwork today.

Re: Internet access when cruising-The elegant way
OK, curiosity got the better of me (and I may have the need for two systems) so I bought the Alfa equipment as well. While both the Alfa system and the Bullet based system are operational, they are both pending a few tweaks before doing the final assembly, and field tests. I'll let all know how they work out.mashenden wrote:...Not knowing about the Alfa solution I went with a used Bullet 2-HP, a used TP-Link TL-MR3040 Portable Battery Powered Wireless N Router, and the same Engenius antenna. My design also needed a POE to power the Bullet and a 12v to 5v micro USB converter to power the router. In total it all cost about the same as your system (based on e-bay pricing), but mine includes used parts and is more complicated.
I'd love to test them side by side. You wouldn't happen to be in VA, would you? [Edit: Never mind - I just noted you are in CT. I am half tempted to buy one so I can do a test.]
Here are some pics of the unassembled units:

Re: Internet access when cruising
My Wi-Fi access points are almost ready to install and test. The one on the right has an external antenna for the local Wi-Fi (edit: and by "right", I mean "left" ) , while the other one has an internal local antenna. I sure wish I had gone with the exact same main antennas - now I'll have to swap the guts between the two in order to do an apple-to-apple test of the Alfa equipment and the Bullet based system. Doh!!!
