Complete "As New" CD-36 North Sails and Spar For Sale

Post by John Stone »

As we near completion of the rebuild of our CD 36 Far Reach we have come upon a terrific deal on a new mast for our boat that was too good to pass up. Because it is a scratch built mast we decided to make it 3 ½’ longer than the original spar and along with a longer bow sprit we have designed the boat will require a new set of sails with longer P, E, I, and J measurements as they have all changed. Thus, I have for sale, a complete set of "as new" North Sails, main, jib, and stay sail as well as an “as new” Hood asymmetric spinnaker that will fit a production Cape Dory. They are in perfect condition.

We also have for sale a complete mast (Rig Rite CD-5 spar) and boom with serviceable standing rigging.

I took the sails to the Doyle Sails loft in Oriental, NC a couple of days ago. The sail maker there described them “as new.”
They are in perfect shape and show little to no sign of wear except a little sun fading on the protective brown leach cover for the roller furling genoa. The genoa has the CD brown UV protective leach cover for roller furling. It has our hull number 61 on it but it can be removed and I doubt you could ever tell it was there since the sails are so new and without any sign of fading. The stay sail has two reef points and looks as if it has never been used. The main has two reef points and is in perfect "like new" shape as well. The flashing on the sail slides are not even worn. There is no CD logo or number on the main so you can order it from a sail maker and make it match your boat.
These are what I would call coastal sails as opposed to heavy duty triple stitched blue water off-shore sails. This set of sails could serve as a complete set of replacement sails that would fit a Cape Dory 36 without any modification. They would be great for sailing on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic Seaboard, west coast of the US , the Caribbean or the Bahamas. I’d want a heavier set for a TRANSLANT or TRANSPAC.

I also have an “as new” Hood asymmetric spinnaker with snuffer and integral 2:1 halyard. It is radial cut blue and yellow. It shows no sign of use.

I posted pictures of the sails and the Doyle Loft Survey Report my website. Here is the link.

I have had some interest in selling individual sails but would prefer to sell them as a group. I think it's a great opportunity for a complete set of like new North Sails for someone that would like to replace a worn out set at half the cost.
