Has anyone bought/installed one of the kit versions of the Island Nautical Dodger. They have plans for many boats including Cape Dories. Honestly I am partial to the little round windows on the side.
Did they, for example, do a good job designing the dodger to fit well around the CD 30 C cabintop traveller?

Re: Island Nautical Dodger
Chris,
I purchased a new Island Nautical dodger earlier this year (at SailExpo in Atlantic City as a matter of fact). I had it made as an exact match of my old Island Nautical dodger. I sent them the old one as well as my awning so that they could make sure that the new one matched the old one exactly. They provided the snaps and turnbuttons as well as the tools and I installed the snaps and turnbuttons myself, with the dodger in place on the original frame, so that the snaps and turnbuttons on the dodger would match the placement of those already on the boat. It looks great.
Here's a <a href="http://www.hometown.aol.com/bcomet/atth ... ">photo</a> of Realization's crew standing in the cockpit with the dodger in the background.
And here's a <a href="http://www.hometown.aol.com/bcomet/atth ... ">photo</a> of Realization's dodger/awning combination.

Re: Island Nautical Dodger
Our experience was the same as Catherine's--that is, we got a replacement dodger from Island Nautical made just like the one that came with our boat when we bought her second-hand. We had to install our own snaps, but it was easy. We mailed them our old dodger (minus the frame) and they made a new one using the old template. We forgot to mention that we had an awning already, so they didn't install a zipper for it, but we got a local canvas shop here in Michigan to do that. We are very happy with our new dodger. I can't answer your question about a CD 30, since ours is a 28, but I imagine if Island Nautical says they can do it, they can!

Re: Island Nautical Dodger
We have one on DeLaMer, and love it! In fact, it is the second cover over the same frame. We had the first dodger built to their pre-existing plan for the CD30C, and then had the second one built from that same plan, rather than from our old dodger, as it's shape may be slightly different than the original. Since the frame was built to the originals shape, we hoped for a better fit on the replacement. It did fit perfectly.
The Island Nautical dodger has a nice look to it. It is lower than others, but in keeping with the Alberg lines we love so much. We had them add two small pockets on the inside of the outer flaps, under the round windows. This has turned into a great little place to put things..around the islands, spare camcorder batteries, the handheld vhf, gloves, or even the staysail sheet extra. ..Or while making a crossing of Superior, charts, guide books, bird book etc.
Good folks and a good product!
Cheers!
