It is with regret that I inform the Board and close associates that Glen Snader, owner of SRS Systems, Inc. and Hobby Marine, passed away unexpectedly on New Years Eve from an undisclosed illness. His obituary can be accessed at the following link:

Glen was a mechanical engineer who, with his wife Joyce, ran SRS Systems, a water and waste water analysis company. He was also an expert craftsman, and sailor. Sometimes he even dabbled in motorboats.
Back in 2003-2004, Glen was active with the Carolinas fleet and attended our meetings, held a fiberglas/gelcoat seminar, and went sailing on one of our Fleet outings. He was quick with a smile, and a solution to many boaters' problems and issues.
Glen was active in his church and was well loved; his visitation/showing on Monday was well attended by many in the New Bern, NC area.
Glen (aka The Hobster) has posted frequently on this board about many items of general nature, but especially about the future of the CD 300 Motorsailor. When we visited Glen's shop in Pollocksville (adjacent to New Bern on the Trent River) back in 2004, he had just purchased the molds for this vessel and they were out in his yard, upside down. His dream was to get someone to finance the first rebuild, then everything else would follow from there.
His shop, equipment and the molds will probably be available at some point soon. I would encourage anyone interested in the CD 300 Motorsailor to contact his wife (Joyce) and discuss the disposition of these items. A quick search on 'Hobby Marine' will give you the contact information.
Glen, I know you are now sailing the Heavenly Seas. May God bless...

Re: Tribute to Glen Snader (Hobby Marine)
I'm so sorry to hear of Glen's death. Glen was one of the first members of this forum that I met when I first started sailing and bought my first boat, a CD25. When I wrote here of my first sail, the problems I encountered, and the resultant broken tiller, he contacted me, encouraged me to continue, and built be a new, laminated tiller, at no cost. He taught me about epoxies and showed me the projects he was working on at the time including a completely refurbished open cockpit CD14 that was spectacular. He had also purchased the molds for the CD motor-sailor and had dreams of continuing the line. He is the one that got me interested in boat building and I was very much looking forward to sailing up the Trent River to show off my new build when completed. A fine man.
