Hello fellow CD enthusiasts. I am looking for a CD25 or CD22 or Ty Sr. to purchase. I am in the Chicago area and it seems most boats for sale are far away. Can anybody advise me as to effert involved in sailing the interstates. I would need to rent a truck, since I have only VWs in the family garage. Can most trailers handle this. Am I better off to just hire a professional hauler? What should I expect to pay? Any and all comments and suggestions welcome.

Buying and trailering a CD25

Dan:
In March I purchased a CD 25 located in Sheboygan, WI and had it shipped to a boat yard in Milwaukee, WI (about 45 miles). The move was a challenge as the boat was in a defunct yard that no longer had a crane to lift the boat to a cradle or trailer. Fortunately, I found Whealon Towing & Service in Fond du Lac, WI (800) 779-6516. Using a trailer equipped with a hydraulic lifting system, they were able to lift the boat off of its’ rotting wood cradle and place it on the trailer. The entire lift and secure process took less than 45 minutes. The lift off of the trailer was done at the boat yard using their crane. The cost for the entire move was about $550.00, with the yard charging $100.00 just to pick it off of the trailer and set it in its’ new cradle. The people at Whealon are great to deal with, courteous and professional. Considering that a new trailer from Triad was over $4,000.00 and that I would have had to pay for some sort of crane to pick the boat off the cradle, (not to mention a truck to pull the trailer) I feel $450.00 was very reasonable.
As a side note, I’ve found quite a few CD’s for sale in Wisconsin. Particularly north of Milwaukee.
