Hey there,
Just curious if anyone has figured out a way to repower a CD-30 (or any other CD with a V-Drive) without using a V-drive? I'd love to figure out a way without tearing the boat apart... doesn't seem possible at this point though.
Any help would be great.

Cape Dory found a way. I am not sure if anyone else has since but Raven is a CD-30 with a Universal engine and a straight drive. So it is certainly possible, Steve.

I gave this considerable thought prior to re-powering a few years back.
As I recall, without re-positioning the shaft-log, you would have to move the engine forward almost a foot and cut down the stringers some.
I decided against it for obvious reasons.
A 'backwards' sitting motor does give easy access to he trans.
I did make the shelf above the engine removable so I can accomplish most maintenance avoiding having to go thru the lazerette and below the cockpit - I do have to get in there to get at the water pump.
I've been happy with the new motor and v drive, made a huge difference.

Thanks for your replies.
That's kinda what we thought. We are going to stick with the V-drive and avoid tearing the stringers out. Looking to reuse as many systems as possible; I'm sure keeping the V-Drive will only assist in this.

Can you please snap a photo of your shelf. This sounds like a great solution!Ron M. wrote:.
