Keith Finck, a new member from Rhode Island, sent this message to me via e-mail, because his password has not yet been registered with the board. So I offered to post the question for him. --Joe Myerson, Capt. NE Fleet:
I am a new owner of a CD14 as of last weekend (hull #345). My Dad (96 yrs
old) had a CD10 that I still have in my yard without any parts....basically
a hull and seats. I filled out the online application yesterday but have not
heard back as to it being active. Any help you can give me there ? I also
would like to know if there are any CD10 or 14 owners in RI so that I can
check out the correct way to rig the sails...I seem to be having an issue
where the sprit assembly matches up with the top of the mast assembly. It
does not seem to want to go into the jaws at the top of the mast. I also
want to see if anyone has a pair of spoon oars to sell for the CD14. I have
a mismatched pair of spoon oars 7' and 7 1/2' that I want to replace.

Re: CD 14 Questions from a new member
Keith, I too recently acquired a CD14. I have a post halfway down the page (edit: now off the page) looking for some help that's gone unanswered. I'm afraid there isn't much info to be had about this boat. I'm hoping my years of small-boat experience will get the answers first hand as I tackle the project.
I haven't sailed my little boat but have hoisted the rigging and found as you did that the gunter sprit did not home in on the upper mast jaw. I had no sail attached to the spars so I think that has something to do with it. In actual sailing conditions you might have the sprit falling off the mast a little as you would a gaff, and, the mast would turn with the wind which would aid in the alignment. I'm going with that for now.
Does your mast have a bottom cap like on a Sunfish? Mine doesn't.

Dan....yes i do have a plastic (black) plug in the bottom of the mast. I found in rigging the sails that I redid the attachment on the spirit and it seems to go into the pulley on the mainmast whereas before it would "hang " up short of the pulley . This seems to have worked as I went sailing yesterday in 15 knot "breeze" and it stayed in the jaw. Had a few other minor issues (rudder kept kicking up) that I fixed. Also ran the boat with a 2 hp motor and it flew across the water with 2 people in it. More sailing this weekend . Let me know how you are doing with yours. I have hull #345.
