Cape Dory 10 and Gator trailer restoration

Post by whoward3rd »

In final stages of restoration of a CD10 (hull 1027) and Gator trailer, both appear to be from late 1960's. To describe the restoration:

Hull restoration:
- Gunnels replaced with Philippine mahogany
- Gunnels, seats, interior transom, filled with red mahogany filler stain and six coats of Schooner varnish
- Hull primed with Epoxy Prime-Kote and two coats of snow white Perfection two part polyurethane
- Cockpit primed with Pre-Kote and two coats of Interdeck squall blue
- Cape Dory hull graphics (Cape Dory Co logo on boat oar outline) reproduced and attached
- All coatings used mfg. by Interlux

Trailer restoration:
- Running gear - new wheels, tires, hubs and bearings
- New lights
- new rollers, winch, carpeted bunks
- new fenders
- refinished with rustoleum galvanized silver, with red fenders
- Gator graphics, logo and serial number reproduced and attached

Sail / Gunter rig
Have all original parts with original blue and white sail
- Ordering new sail from Ace Sailmakers in Ct this week

Currently hull is upside down, awaiting total curing of the two part polyurethane before being placed back on trailer. All that's left is to finish polishing bronze hardware pieces and replacing rigging.
