Operation of galley freshwater hand pump

Post by Jeff Peterson »

Hi all

Does anyone have thoughts on why the galley handpump won't pump?...pressure system works fine...I open the aft valve under the sink with the aft tank valve open and get nothing at the handpump...this is on a CD 36

Thanks

Take the hose off the pump end and blow through it, make sure its not blocked. The pump might need rebuilding though, take it apart and see if/what is worn inside of it and replace it. If the seal on the piston is worn, too much air will escape and the pump wont prime.

If it is a piston style pump, I would suspect the leather piston seal before anything else. It is also the easiest thing to get to and should be periodically greased anyway. Pull it apart grease the piston seal with something you wouldn't mind mixed in your drinking water and see if that doesn't fix it, Steve.

I would suggest using a food grade silicon grease.
