Of what stuff are Typhoons made?

Post by Paul Fuchs »

I live in St. John, VI, and recently purchased a Typhoon Weekender; 1978, Hull # 1622.
A sometimes knowledgable guy down here claims the hull of this boat is epoxy as opposed to polyester. Another knowledgable guy scoffs at this claim. What's the truth? And also, did Cape Dory ever make any boats out of epoxy?

TIA,

Paul

The hull is glass reinforced polyester resin. (Unless the factory was doing custom hulls, which has never been mentioned on this board, anyway.)

Perhaps he was referring to an epoxy barrier coat that may have been applied to that specific hull?
