Typhoon Parts

Post by Doro Stocks »

Looking for winch handle for 1969 Typhoon. Winch is brass and when you look down into it there is a round opening 1 1/4 inch in diameter with a groove at the base similar to the top of a screw fitting a flat screw driver. Any ideas?

I recently purchased the boat and am currently getting it ready to sail in the spring.

The winch handle you need slides into the side of the winch. I have sold all my extras. I also have a 1969 model. The most important information I can provide is; you don't really need it!

I havn't taken my "star winch handle" aboard my 1976 model since the year I bought it. If you are sailing in a Typhoon in weather that requires a winch handle, you better be ready to get very wet. The boat will handle the weather better than you.

I used to agree with John, but have lately changed my mind. There just are times when you want the full leverage of the winch. It won't help to have the handle at home when you want to kedge off a sandbar etc. My 1974 had Gibb winches. They took a standard winch handle. The oversized screw head within was for taking the winch apart for service. Personally I don't like locking winch handles, especially for a Ty since you aren't likely to leave it in the winch where it would fall overboard.
