Last week my rudder divorced herself from the hull (#807) citing irreconcilable differences due to electrolysis. Two attempts at diving to find the old rudder for therapy (a.k.a repair) have been unsuccessful. 13 years in the water year-round, proved just too much.
I've removed the rudder post and rudder shoe so it's now time to begin assembly of a new rudder. I'd like to get the machine shop started this week on the stainless steel rudder assembly.
I have the dimension of the old rudder post but don't know the length of the "E" rods that were perpendicular. Or, the diameter.
Could someone please pass on those dimensions or an alternate design/plans I could use for fabrication.
Any and all help appreciated. Please feel free to call me 301-481-6669 or email me at krogen42@gmail.com.
Thanks much! Chuck

Hi Chuck,
I assume that your rudder post is made of Stainless Steel. (SS)
If so, you really don't need what you call E-fingers or E-rods. You can run a continous bead where the blade contacts the post.
I hope that Tartan Sailor chimes in. He has an all SS rudder assembly on his CD 25.
It is also possible to make a new blade from two layers of 3/8" plywood.
Feel free to ask how. If you email me and give me a snail mail address, I can mail you a template.
Good luck,
O J

I didn't see any email in my mailbox. Maybe try a PM message.

Ahoy John,
I emailed three times through the email link and, if it came through, it was under the name krogen42@gmail.com. My mailing address is P.O. Box 32, California, MD 20619 and my cell is 301-481-6669. I very much look forward to your insight as I'm anxious to get a machine shop started on the metal fabrication. Best regards, Chuck
